So, we've had a really rough week at our house. Last weekend, Cody decided he wanted to clean our garage so he could start exercising out there again on his machine. We had the boys that weekend, so they were out there helping. The girls and I were watching Little Mermaid in the family room. I heard a crash and alot of commotion, but thought nothing of it ( I just figured they dropped something), until Haden came running through the door and said Cody had fallen off the ladder and I needed to come. I ran to the door and saw Cody trying to stand up. His face was white as a ghost and he looked at me and said, "My arm is broke!". Me being the stupid person I am, said "Are you sure??". With a couple of choice words, he informed that yes, he was sure and to find someone to take the kids so we could go to the hospital. I called his dad to come take him while I found someone to take all 4 kids. I ended up taking them down to Farmington to my sister, Michelle's house, who I am so grateful to because she ended up having them until 8:00 that night and even brought them home for me. When I got to the hospital, Cody was already flying high on morphine and had been xrayed and I was informed that he actually broke BOTH ARMS!!!!! They told me that the Orthopedic Dr on call was on his way to look at the xrays and would decide what to do.
Well, on his right arm, it is his elbow that is broke. It is broke right in the joint so they decided not to cast it because the sooner Cody starts moving it and using it the better or it will become arthritic. His left arm, however, wasn't as minor. After over 2 hours of surgery to put 5 pins in, he ended up staying overnight in the hospital because they couldn't get his pain under control and his blood pressure kept going way high. He is off work for a few weeks, but may be able to go back on light duty sooner depending on his right elbow. The pins will be in for 4-6 weeks. He's praying they come out before the end of December because he has a cow elk hunting tag he wants to be able to use.
I ended up taking the week off of work to play nurse and take care of the girls. I have always known that Cody does alot around here as far as housework, and helping with the girls, but after having to do EVERYTHING myself this week, I now know just HOW MUCH he really does. I think he's been a little humiliated at some of the things I've had to do for him and he is starting to go a little crazy at being cooped up at home. I want to thank everyone who has taken, or offered to take and help out with our girls this week, and for everyone who brought meals in. I felt bad taking meals because I'm the one who cooks and I'm not injured, but I really have been stressed out and had alot to deal with this week, so THANKYOU!
Despite Cody's mishap, I was still able to go to the midnight showing of 'New Moon' on Thursday night thanks to his sister who came over to babysit him and the kids. THANKS COURTNEY! I really did need some time away to regroup, and it was nice to spend some time with my sisters, some friends and my nieces!
